ONE of the south west's largest independent accountancy practices has bought a Bridgwater firm with "a strong presence and a proud history" in the town.

On Tuesday, March 1, Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants announced the acquisition of Sully & Co Chartered Accountants.

Sully & Co has served individuals and businesses in Bridgwater since 1865.

Its team of 10 people has relocated to Thomas Westcott’s Bridgwater office in Castle Street, with partner John Hale joining as a consultant.

Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants say the move is the latest development in the firm's "organic and acquisitive growth across the south west".

Thomas Westcott now has a workforce of more than 260 people based across Devon and Somerset.

It hopes that bringing together the firms together will benefit existing and new clients in the Bridgwater area.

Thomas Westcott managing partner Shona Godefroy said: “We warmly welcome the Sully & Co team to Thomas Westcott.

“Sully & Co has enjoyed a strong presence and a proud history in Bridgwater, serving a diverse range of businesses in the local area and beyond.

“This investment reflects Thomas Westcott’s growth strategy and our continued commitment to the communities in which we operate, ensuring all the businesses we support can access the depth and breadth of expertise across our 260-strong team.”

Sully & Co senior partner John Hale commented: “We very much believe that the merger of Sully & Co with Thomas Westcott’s Bridgwater office will benefit both our clients and staff alike, providing continuity of service in a professional and friendly manner with the additional benefits of wider resources that a larger firm can offer.”
