A ONE-way system will be in place for 26 days for drivers wishing to use a car park or visit a residential home in Taunton.

The restriction will apply for a 150-metre stretch of Kilkenny Court to enable Wessex Water to replace an ageing water main.

The main is said to be "prone to leaks and bursts".

One lane of the Kilkenny Court road will be closed from its junction with Clifton Terrace.

The other lane will remain open, allowing vehicles exiting the Kilkenny Car Park to reach Clifton Terrace.

In effect, a temporary one-way system will be in operation to allow vehicles to access and exit the car park.

A Wessex Water spokesperson said:

  • One lane of Kilkenny Court from its junction with Clifton Terrace (for a 150m stretch) will be closed for the work;
  • Access will be maintained for residential home users/residents and emergency vehicles;
  • Vehicles will be able to exit the Kilkenny Car Park and reach Clifton Terrace using the other lane of Kilkenny Court;
  • Vehicles wanting to enter the Kilkenny Car Park will be diverted via Clifton Terrace, Kingston Road and Taunton Station road and then back onto Kilkenny Court from the south to do so - effectively a one-way system. Diversion route will be clearly marked.

The water main replacement work is scheduled to start on Monday, March 7 and finish Friday, April 1.

The Wessex Water spokesperson said: “We’re replacing an ageing water main that is prone to leaks and bursts, to ensure improved water quality and a more reliable supply for our customers.

“One lane of Kilkenny Court, from its junction with Clifton Terrace, will be closed for this work but Kilkenny Car Park users will be able to exit using the other lane to reach Clifton Terrace.

"A diversion route will be clearly marked to ensure vehicles wanting to enter the Kilkenny Car Park can do so via Clifton Terrace, Kingston Road and Taunton Station road.

“We’re sorry for any traffic delays caused by this essential work, which finishes on April 1.”
