A MAN from Bridgwater has collected more than 15,000 aluminum cans to raise funds for several charities.

Christopher Hutter collected soft drinks and beers cans while out litter picking to help charities operating in the area.

So far, he has been able to help Sydenham Improvement Group/Sydenham Pantry, Reach, Unique, and SNICU Musgrove and has raised £100.

Christopher said his initial aim was £200 but since he is close to that target, he says that in the future will try to reach £1000.

He collects cans and scrap metal, then weighs the bags at the scrapyard in Taunton. When he reaches £50, he donates the amount to a charity.

Christopher said: “I need a bigger target and now I aim for £1000.

“Collecting cans give me something to aim for. It’s good for my disability and it helps my mental health.”

Christopher also goes out around Bridgwater to do litter picking and the activity also helps him to raise money for the charities on his list.

He said: “I suffer from mental health problems, and I thought ‘what can I do to feel better?’ So when I go out I collect cans and collect them to raise funds.

“When I reach £50 and donate to them, I find a new charity. I have 12 charities on my list now.”

Christopher also said he likes to help charities based in Bridgwater so he can hand them the cheques in person.

He is currently still collecting bags hoping to reach his target and help as many charities as possible.
