A BRIDGWATER bike shop has received government funding to offer free bike checks to cyclists in the area and to extend the work to include bike repair workshops and supported rides.

The Dr Bike and 36Eastover teams hope to encourage 'reluctant riders' from Bridgwater and the surrounding areas to have a go at repairing and riding their bikes.

Cycling UK has committed to extending the pop-up Dr Bike offer across the country by funding qualified and experienced mechanics and instructors to complete free bike health checks and ensure that bikes are safe to ride. The mechanic can also carry out minor adjustments and replace small parts, time permitting.

Cycling UK said: “As the country begins to relax restrictions, Cycling UK has committed to extending this offer across the country via pop-up bike mechanics delivering Dr Bike sessions in local communities for everyone, during winter 2022.”

Sedgemoor District Council has assisted in agreeing on a site at the bottom of Fore Street adjacent to the Nationwide Building Society.

Dr Bike pop-ups will be run in Bridgwater between noon and 3pm on the following Fridays: February 18, 4th and 18th March 4, 18, and 27.

For dates of the bike workshops and supported rides please contact the Bicycle Workshop.

Slots must be pre-booked either by calling 01278 287918 or messaging the team via their Facebook page, facebook.com/36Eastover.
