A COUPLE who set up a charity in memory of their daughter are hoping many people will join them for this year's Santa Dash - and lots of family fun festivities.

Evie Johnston was only six months old when she died six years.

Her parents, Greg and Jill, set up Team Evie in her memory and have raised over £450,000.

The money has been used to fund medical equipment and provide training that has saved children’s lives, make time in hospital easier for sick children, reduce anxiety for families and support bereaved parents.

Their latest fundraiser is all about Christmas.

A Santa Dash and Festive Family Fun Day will be held at Workington Cricket Club on December 12.

The dash involves a one-mile run with every child getting a Santa hat to run in and a medal for completing the run.

This will be followed by a family fun day with festive food and drinks, games, crafts, stalls, tombola and - of course - Santa in his grotto, plus some elves.

"We ran the event in 2019 and it was really brilliant, unfortunately we couldn’t last year but we are looking forward to being back with a bang this year.

"We're thrilled to be holding it again and really grateful for the cricket club's support," said Greg, who runs the charity.

"Lots of families who we have supported as a charity turned up. It's always really lovely to see them."

Next year Team Evie will staging the Three Lakes Walk challenge in which participants will walk 29 miles around Ennerdale Water, Crummock Water and Buttermere.

Last month they encouraged people to wear green to mark the sixth anniversary of Evie’s death.

"This is different to what we normally do but it's nice having a day where everyone is there together, having fun," said Greg.

"The children love the run and lots of them sprint off at the start.

"There was a great atmosphere last time and everyone had lots of fun."

Greg is hoping his daughters, Imani, five and Anais, three, will join him on the dash.
