PLANS for a 15 metre-high 5G mast in Bridgwater have been submitted.

The scheme, from mobile network 3, would see six antennas attached to the pole in Broadway Park, near the junction with Salmon Parade.

The application says the mast would 'provide new 5G coverage' as well as improving '4G coverage and capacity' in the area.

"The proposed site is located on the pavement on the western side Broadway Park just north of its junction with Salmon Parade and in a location where it is some distance from residences despite being in a predominantly residential area," the application said.

"To the west is a car park and to the east, behind a fence and hedges, is a Doctors Surgery. There are lampposts, traffic lights and trees in the area, all of which will provide screening to the monopole and equipment cabinets and will prevent the installation from being an anomalous feature."

As well as the six antennas, the installation would also feature a number of equipment cabinets and two transmission dishes.

The application is the latest in a series of schemes from 3 to improve 5G in the Bridgwater area.

It comes after a similar application for a site on the Bristol Road, and another for land in North Petherton.

The current application will be considered by Sedgemoor District Council, and members of the public can comment on the scheme until September 19.
