SEVERAL animals were rescued from a house fire earlier this morning (Monday, September 6).
Fire crews from Bridgwater and Taunton were called to the blaze in Pawlett shortly before 9am.
A passer-by has dialled 999 to report the fire.
Once on scene, crews confirmed a fire in the kitchen of the property and got to work attempting to gain access to the property.
On gaining entry, they swiftly extinguished the fire and rescued a dog, a hamster and several budgies.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the kitchen was "25 per cent damaged by fire and 100 per cent damaged by smoke and the remainder of the property suffered 20% smoke damage".
The fire was believed to be accidental.
