PLANS for 33 new homes in North Petherton have been submitted.

The application would see 33 homes built on land at Batts Farm, in Newton Road.

Submitted on behalf of West of England Developments, the scheme would also include an access and link road, public open space, attenuation pond and drainage infrastructure at the site, which has been allocated for development in the Sedgemoor Local Plan.

It is part of a larger development, which would feature around 230 homes.

Land to the south of this site has already seen a planning application for 130 homes approved.

"This proposal covers the northern part of the allocation, with vehicular and pedestrian access from Newton Road in the north eastern corner of the application site, while the site immediately south has Outline and Reserved Matters planning permission for 130 dwellings," the application says.

"The developments would connect areas to the south west around the A38 and areas to the north east around Newton Road and provide for pedestrian and cycle connectivity, facilitating and encouraging more sustainable travel choices between communities and the town centre services and facilities."

How the development could look

Planning applications for development of the site were previously approved, but have since lapsed, the application says.

The proposed development would see the 'majority of its boundary trees and hedgerows' retained, the plan says, while incorporating measures such as tree planting and wildflower meadow seeding and hedgerows added.

Residents can have their say on the application online at www.sedgemoor.gov.uk/planning until August 3, 2021.
