A SOMERSET location is the UK's top restaurant hotspot, according to the results of the latest research.

The tiny city of Wells came out on top of a nationwide survey of food destinations.

Wells scored perfect 10s for the number of restaurants per capita, with 12 eateries for everyone 1,000 people.

It also ranked highly for vegan options, with 44 per cent of the hospitality sector catering for diners with a plant-based diet.

The research from CIA Landlord Insurance gave Wells an overall score of 6.1 - meaning the city has a greater food culture that metropolitan destinations such as Berlin (5.5), Amsterdam (5.8) and Prague (5.9).

Chester and Lichfield came second and third in the UK rankings, while Bath was tenth.
