A BRIDE is feeling 'really deflated' after her special day was ruined after a few significant issues.

Caroline and Darren Mills got married at a St Mary's Church in North Petherton, and had their reception at Maunsel House, near Bridgwater, on June 24.

They had been waiting to get married for a while and were worried the pandemic would halt their plans.

Luckily, they were able to enjoy celebrating with family and friends, but Caroline said parts of the day were 'a real upset'.

The pair had paid a lot of money for their three-tier cake and were planning to save the top tier for their grandsons christening that week.

However, staff at the venue cut all three tiers of the cake to give to the guests on the day.

As well as this, Caroline's daughter-in-law fell through one of the floorboards at Maunsel House and tore ligaments in her leg.

There were a few other issues too, including the fact that the couple paid for a tea and coffee station, which didn't seem to appear during the evening.

However, they were told by Maunsel House staff after the wedding that this was in a different room to allow for social distancing.

A spokesperson for Maunsel House has said a 'discussion is in progress' with the couple and they are 'actively looking' to resolve any issues.

"This complaint comes very much as a surprise to us as we have not had any complaints from any of our recent weddings," they said.

"In fact quite the opposite - our couples are always extremely complimentary of the service they have received from the team at Maunsel House and we have many glowing reviews to reflect this.

"Many of the matters they have raised have in fact already been dealt with in the correct and timely manner.

"After what has been an extremely testing year for the weddings and hospitality industry due to the impact of Covid, we are now looking positively towards a very busy summer of weddings here at Maunsel House.

"The team are doing their very best to ensure all couples who marry here are able to enjoy the day they deserve after such a long wait due to Covid.”

But Caroline said she wanted to warn others and doesn't want anyone else to have a bad experience.

"It has been a real upset and a real deflate from the wedding," she added.

"The day can be upsetting and distressing if it doesn't flow nicely. I just feel like I can't just forget about it.

"I just wanted people to be aware really when weddings aren’t as organised as they should be, then it can have a negative effect on the whole experience.

"None of this is to do with reclaiming money - I just don't want anyone to have a spoilt day. All I want from the venue was an apology."
