Important repair work on a key Bridgwater route is scheduled to start later this month.

Somerset County Council’s highways team is resurfacing a section of the A372 Westonzoyland Road as it is showing signs of deterioration with cracks on the carriageway.

The scheme is due to begin on Monday, July 26, and expected to finish on Friday, August 6.

The works will be carried out under a road closure from 9.30am to 3.30pm on weekdays to ensure the safety of the public and the workforce.

Cllr John Woodman, Somerset County Council’s cabinet member for highways, said: “This is part of our ongoing programme to look after our roads in the county and ensure they are maintained to a high standard.

“The closure is necessary to ensure the workforce remain safe so they can complete the work as swiftly as possible.

"Fortunately, the road will be open at peak hours and at the weekend to enable us to keep disruption to a minimum.

“Access to households and businesses in the area will be maintained and we will work closely with those affected by the works.

"Deliveries and access will be accommodated by liaison with on-site operational staff.

"Every effort will be made to keep the duration of the works to a minimum. Pedestrian access will be maintained.”

During the road closure a suggested diversion route will be clearly signposted on site.
