GAS cylinders were removed from a telehandler which caught fire in a Somerset yard today (June 13).

The vehicle caught fire and was reported to the fire service at 3pm.

One fire engine from Cheddar and another from Glastonbury attended the incident, alongside a water carrier from Bridgwater.

"On arrival the telehandler was well alight with a burst hydraulic line but the vehicle was isolated in a yard not threatening surrounding buildings," said a fire service spokesperson.

"The telehandler held four butane cylinders which crews were able to remove from the risk area."

The telehandler was destroyed by the blaze, they added, and the cause of the fire was believed to be accidental.
