A LARGE amount of fuel was stolen from a commercial premises in Bridgwater earlier this month.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident, which is thought to have taken place between 10pm on May 6 and 8am on May 7.

Argos employees, who fill up their vehicles at the site, claim they had to refuel in Bristol after the theft.

The theft happend after Argos announced the retailer’s warehouse at Huntworth, Bridgwater was set to close.

One person, who wishes not to be named, said the 230 Argos staff and other 300 sub employees were "disgusted".

"From what I saw, the security fence had been breached and a hole had been drilled in the bunded diesel tank," they added.

"And then the diesel had been pumped back through the fence and into a large vehicle parked on the public service road.

"The patched fence and spillage can be seen on the public path and the road outside the Argos site."

Avon and Somerset Police said they are investigating the theft.

"We’re investigating a report regarding the theft of a large quantity of fuel from a commercial premises in Bridgwater," a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said.

"Anyone with information that could assist police with their inquiry is asked to call 101 quoting reference 5221099129."
