A BRIDGWATER runner is putting her best foot forward to complete an epic marathon challenge for charity this weekend.

In 2015, Jo Rundle took on the challenge of running her first marathon.

Jo, who works at Brymore Academy in the town, had only started running alongside colleagues and students in a bid to keep fit.

But the running bug took hold, and she completed that first marathon, in Dublin, at the age of 44.

From there, her ambitious plan was hatched - to complete 50 marathons before turning 50 - meaning she had to complete 49 of the 26-mile treks in just six years.

That 50th birthday is approaching, in June, and on Saturday (May 22) Jo will take to a start line at Brymore to complete her 50th marathon run.

Her sister, Claire Matthews, was full of praise for Jo's efforts, particularly as she didn't complete her second marathon until 2017.

"Jo’s marathons have taken her to Dublin, Liverpool, Yeovil, Dartmoor, Essex, Buckinghamshire and all over the South West," she said.

"She even managed to continue through lockdown in order to achieve her goal."

"Jo’s 50th and final marathon will take place on May 22 at Brymore School, where it all began, setting a marathon record for Brymore and completing this amazing challenge for Jo."

A Just Giving page has been created to raise money for the British Heart Foundation in recognition of the marathon effort.
