A YOUNG woman caught speeding FIVE times in EIGHT days on the same stretch of the M5 has been let off a driving ban

Haiqa Ahmad, 21, of Firepool View, Taunton, told Taunton Magistrates' Court losing her licence would lead to her losing her job as she worked nights, when there was no public transport.

She admitted the offences but said a ban would also mean she would be unable to complete her university course.

Despite being handed a total of 17 penalty points, Ahmad avoided a ban.

Her speeding offences, all on the M5 last year, were:

  • May 24: between Junctions 24 and 25 southbound, 72mph in a 50mph limit.
  • May 28: between Junctions 24 and 25 southbound, 62mph in a 50mph limit.
  • May 30: between Junctions 25 and 24 northbound, 62mph in a 50mph limit.
  • June 1: between Junctions 25 and 24 northbound, 65mph in a 50mph limit.
  • June 1: between Junctions 24 and 25 southbound, 73mph in a 50mph limit.

Ahmad was given four penalty points for each of the first and last offences and three points for the other three offences.

She was fined a total of £500 along with a £50 victim surcharge and £170 costs.
