TWO further Covid-related deaths have been recorded in a Somerset district, according to the latest 24-hour figures.

The overall number of people to have died in Mendip within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test since the start of the pandemic has risen to 162.

The overall totals in the other three districts in the county council area remain static, with 151 in South Somerset, 202 in Somerset West and Taunton and 155 in Sedgemoor.

There were 26 new confirmed cases in the county in the same period.

South Somerset had 18 positive tests, for an overall 5,432 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.

There was one new confirmed case in Somerset West and Taunton (overall 5,940).

Sedgemoor saw five recorded cases (overall 5,334).

And Mendip had two (overall 3,427).

The latest rates of infection based on rolling seven-day figures are:

South Somerset 31.5 cases per 100,000 people (down from the previous day's 36.2).

SWT 16.8 (down from 18.1).

Sedgemoor 40.6 (up from 39).

Mendip 12.1 (down from 13.8).
