FIRE crews from all over Somerset have spent their Easter Sunday battling a large pub fire in Devon.
The thatched roof of The White Hart Inn on the A35 in Wilmington caught fire this morning (April 4) at 11.54am.
A total of 15 fire engines have been battling the blaze throughout the afternoon, including a high volume pump and environmental protection unit from Taunton, an incident support unit from Martock, as well as fire engines from Yeovil, Crewkerne, Chard and Bridgwater.
"This is a detached building of two floors measuring approximately 30 m x 10 m with the thatched roof being involved in fire," said a spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue.
"The incident was split into sectors which include a water sector, welfare sector, safety sector, salvage sector and a hazmat sector.
"An environmental risk assessment is being carried out.
"At 4.30pm, the incident was reduced to eight fire engines. There are from Bridgwater, Bampton, Witheridge, Dawlish, Ashburton, Yeovil, Crewkerne and Paignton and steady progress is being made.
