Pictures: Sedgemoor students return to school after Covid-19 lockdown

In Bridgwater, Haygrove School had a staggered start - welcoming full year groups back once every child had their first Covid-19 test.

Cath Clark, who has overseen testing at the school, said: “Once every child has had their first test we will be able to open school to everyone and our aim is that by the end of the second week of our return, all students will have completed the recommended three tests.

“After that, everyone will be provided with self-test kits to use twice a week at home with adult supervision.”

Mr Reid, headteacher at the school said they were “looking forward” to welcoming students back.

“We hope that our students and their families will support a safe return to school by following the guidelines set by the government, including carrying out regular self-testing and wearing face coverings whilst indoors, unless they are exempt from doing so,” he said.

“I know from our experiences over the last year that our school community always do their best to support whatever measures we have had to introduce during the pandemic, so feel confident that Haygrove School will be a safe and enjoyable place to be over the coming months.”

Students at Haygrove will be taught in year group ‘bubbles’.

They are also being asked to wear face coverings at all times when in lessons - apart from PE or dance.

Another school in Sedgemoor also returned last week - The King Alfred School Academy in Highbridge.

Principal Nathan Jenkins said: “We are so excited to welcome all students back this week.

”It has been a challenging time but we are incredibly proud of students, staff and parents for their commitment and support during the last few months.”

The school is advising all staff and students wear face coverings at all times, apart from when doing PE or when eating.

Primary Schools also returned last week too.

Pawlett Primary School Academy pupils loved seeing their friends when they returned last Monday (March 8).

Outside learning is a core value of the school, and now they plan to continue it even more post the lockdown.

Principal Emma Barker added: “It has been an incredible day with a wonderful sense of relief and excitement at being back.

“There was huge enthusiasm all round.”
