A NAN whose house caught fire last June is finally back home.

Denise Brooks, from Osbourne Road in Bridgwater, was heartbroken when her home of more than 50 years caught fire on June 1 2020.

Denise went to stay with her family after the fire and her grandson, Layton Hucker, set up a gofundme page to support his nan.

The appeal raised an incredible £2,775 and Denise was "inundated" with donations, flowers, cards and phone calls after the fire.

"We have some fantastic and positive news that we would like to share, Nan’s house is now complete after her house fire last year and has now returned home," said Layton.

"It has taken her a while to settle back in due to what happened, but now she’s got home of her home comforts in there, she’s feeling more settled, her cards and presents and all the well wishes to help her go home.

"We aren’t able to thank everyone individually as there have been so many kind people, but thank you so much to anyone who helped out in any shape and form, you know who you are.

"We would like to say a special thanks to all at Moorhaven Care Home who donated some lovely kitchen appliances to Nan, and also to our friends, our special friends Bob & Pat and Nan’s lovely neighbour and friend, Jenny who helped store some of Nan’s belongings that were recovered from the fire.

"We are extremely grateful for all the support received during the past few months.

"I would also like to say a big thank you to Jon, Alison and Maya for having me live with them during most of the lockdowns too.

"I am just as excited to get my bedroom back as Nan is about being back home.

"Again, we would also like to thank everyone who kindly donated via the gofundme page. The incredible £2,775 has helped Nan to buy anything she needed or wanted to have for her new start at home.

"With 2020 being a year we as a family will never forget, we are definitely looking forward to a brighter 2021. Take care everyone and stay safe."

The ground floor of Denise's home was "severely damaged" by the fire.

But when the building work could start, T.J. Smith Contracting Ltd managed to complete it in just 22 days.

"After the insurance process being so slow and frustrating, we were finally given a date for when the building work would start, nearly seven months later," added Layton.

"T.J. Smith Contracting Ltd were absolutely amazing as they went above and beyond for Nan and completed all of the work in just 22 working days.

"Not only that, but they were also lovely, genuine people who we would like to thank so much."
