HUMANISTS in the Taunton area are urging all non-religious people to tick the 'No Religion' box in the Census on March 21.

Local councillor and humanist Alan Debenham said many non-believers wrongly give the religion they were brought up in.

He added: "By asking all non-religious people to tick ‘No Religion’, we can help to make sure non-religious people’s views are properly considered on ethical and moral issues by those in charge of constitutional policy making, be it for schools, ceremonial events - such as naming, marriage or partnership, deaths or funerals - and in the press and media.

"Please would as many people as possible help us for this 2021 Census campaign by making sure our numbers are properly represented and counted this year by sharing our online campaign page, www.humanists.uk/census-2021 and starting conversations about the Census with family and friends."

Mr Debenham said decisions on faith schools or keeping bishops in the House of Lords depend on accurate responses in the Census.
