A SPECIAL constable who slashed her partner's car tyre and asked a colleague not to report it would have been sacked if she hadn't resigned, a misconduct hearing has concluded.

SPC X, who had quit the Avon and Somerset Police force before the hearing, was told her actions amounted to gross misconduct at the end of yesterday's hearing (Monday, March 8).

The hearing was told that SPC X had slashed the car tyre in order to prevent her then partner leaving their home following an argument on June 21 last year.

Despite being asked to keep quiet about the incident, her colleague went ahead and reported the special constable.

After the conclusion of the hearing, T/Supt Jane Wigmore, head of professional standards with the constabulary, said: "The public rightly expects all officers and staff to act with the highest levels of honesty and integrity and SPC X’s actions fall well below these standards.

"Not only did the officer commit a criminal act aggravated by the fact it was against someone they were in a relationship with, they then tried to coerce a colleague into keeping the matter quiet.

"I’d like to praise the officer who courageously came forward to report this incident.

"They showed the level of probity we demand from our staff who have all made a pledge to serve and protect the public."
