THE Covid-19 infection rate in all four Somerset districts has now dropped to below 60 people per 100,000 population.

The latest 24-hour figures show there were just 26 positive tests for the virus in the county council area.

And Somerset West and Taunton saw just one new confirmed case, while there were only two in Sedgemoor.

South Somerset had 10 positive tests, and there were 13 in Mendip.

The overall totals of confirmed cases in the districts are:

  • South Somerset 5,050;
  • Somerset West and Taunton 5,808;
  • Sedgemoor 5,074;
  • Mendip 3,307.

The overall number of confirmed cases in the county council area since the start of the pandemic is 19,239.

The infections rates based on the latest seven-day rolling figures are:

  • South Somerset 40.4 per 100,000 of population (no change from previous day);
  • SWT 34.8 (down from 36.7);
  • Sedgemoor 59.3 (down from 63.3);
  • Mendip 46.7 (no change).
