THERE have been 39 new Covid-19 cases in four Somerset districts in the last 24-hours.

Sedgemoor saw the largest increase with 15 positive tests, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 4,952.

There were nine new cases in both Somerset West and Taunton (which now has a total of 5,727) and Mendip (which now has a total of 3,207).

South Somerset had six new cases, and still has the lowest infection rate (based on the most recent seven-day rolling figures) with 52.3 per 100,000 (down from 56.4).

Somerset West and Taunton has an infection rate of 72.2 (down from 81.9); the rate in Mendip is 56.2 (down from 60.6) and in Sedgemoor it is 124.2 (up from 115.3).

There were also six more deaths with 28 days of a positive test in the past 48 hours - two in Somerset West and Taunton, two in Sedgemoor and two in Mendip.
