TWO people were fined £200 and had to be rescued from Cheddar Gorge after getting 'stuck' at the summit.

Police and firefighters descended on the Somerset beauty spot on Sunday night (February 7) after the pair got into trouble at the top.

But the duo's relief of being returned to safe ground was short lived as police slapped them with a £200 fine for breaching coronavirus rules.

A tweet from ASPSedgemoor on Sunday night, said: "Specialist fire crews and Police attended Cheddar Gorge this evening to rescue two people who found themselves stuck at the top in the dark.

"Their trip to the Gorge was non-essential and resulted in a £200 penalty. It was a costly outing for them and our emergency services."
