A THEATRE company based in Somerset is offering socially distanced shows in their mobile pop-up theatre.

The Bluebirds Theatre Company will be performing two shows - The Reduced Ring Cycle and The Musicians of Bremen - during the spring and summer this year.

They will be using their mobile pop-up theatre - The Popera House - to tour the show.

The group are being supported by The Arts Council, Arts Taunton, The Somerset Community Foundation and The Golsoncott Foundation.

The shows will include a performance and a workshop, and the theatre company will be visiting schools and community spaces in Somerset.

The Reduced Ring Cycle is a reworking of Wagner’s Ring Cycle by writer and director Philip Kingslan John with music arrangement by Somerset composer Martin Emslie.

“Think opera, think pop, add brevity and a heavy dose of comedy and you get the idea,” said a spokesperson for The Bluebirds Theatre Company.

“Wagner took 15 hours, but we are experts at re-telling even the most complex tale and will take just over an hour.

“Meet all the weird and wonderful characters from The Ring Cycle and listen to some great operatic music in a beautiful mash-up.

“ The story focuses on the amazing love story of Siegfried and Brunhilde and their epic quests with gods and monsters.

“Along with full-size operatic performers, there will be dramatic puppets as we bring our wonderful creation to The Popera House stage.”

The Musicians of Bremen is a jazz musical, based on the Grimm Brothers tale of four abandoned animals seeking a new life.

“The animals: donkey, dog, cat and chicken, all decide to go to Bremen to become musicians to escape,” added the spokesperson.

“After a scary experience with a bunch of wicked robbers, they abandon their quest and instead resolve to live as musicians together. The music is written by Somerset composer Martin Emslie with a script by Sasha Herriman and is directed by Wassail’s Nick White.”
