A DRIVER stopped by police came up with some tried and tested - and failed - excuses for his car being on the road when it shouldn't have been.

Avon and Somerset road policing unit officers pulled the vehicle over in Sedgemoor after noticing it was being driven without MOT and insurance.

The driver apologised and said he was about to insure the vehicle the very same day and was due to get the MOT carried out as well.

There was also the matter of the car not having 'L' plates, while the driver was on his way to pick up the supervisor.

He was then given a drug test which came up positive, leading to his arrest and the vehicle being seized.

The unit tweeted: "Just typical isn’t it?... Always stopped the day when the insurance was going to be taken out...the MOT was going to be done... the ‘L’ plates put on & the supervisor picked up!

"#Seized.

"Shame about the positive @DrugWipeUK too! Arrested."
