A FURTHER four people with Covid-19 have died in Somerset in a single day.

The latest deaths of patients from any cause within 28 days of testing positive for the coronavirus takes the overall death toll in the county council area to 347 since the pandemic began.

The latest deaths included two in Somerset West and Taunton, which has now seen a total of 70 fatalities since the start of the pandemic at a rate of 45.1 people per 100,000 of population.

There was one death in South Somerset, where the total rises to 102 at a rate of 60.6 per 100,000.

The other death was in Sedgemoor, which has seen a total of 90 deaths at a rate of 73.1 per 100,000.

The Mendip total remains at 85, with a rate of 73.5 per 100,000.

The latest 24-hour figures supplied on behalf of the Government show 1,325 people died in the UK in a single day within 28 days of contracting the virus, taking the overall death toll since the start of the pandemic to 79,833.
