SEDGEMOOR District Council is encouraging people to support rough sleepers by making sure they report them in the right way so they can get the help they need.

As part of its commitment to end rough sleeping the council is continuing to work with their partners at ARC, YMCA Dulverton Group and Julian House to get people off the streets and into new homes.

But during the festive season the district council said a ‘coordinated’ approach is needed to ensure people are not missing out on sessions with the council’s Rough Sleeper team. They are asking people if they see someone sleeping rough to report it via Streetlink so they can get the help they need.

“We have a range of experienced and knowledgeable staff working closely with the most vulnerable members of our community to help them access support, healthcare and accommodation,” a district council spokesperson said

“At this time of year, it is wonderful to see so many people wishing to get involved with supporting members of the rough sleeping community.

“However, we ask that this is done in a co-ordinated way to make sure individuals are not missing out on important support sessions with members of our Rough Sleeper team.

“This enables us to help those who need it get support with their health, addictions and housing.

“If you know of someone sleeping rough, please report it through Streetlink on 0300 500 0914 or www.streetlink.org.uk and our outreach service will make contact with them.
