SOMERSET residents will still have the chance to enjoy a Christmas pantomime this year - but with a twist.

Bristol Airport are set to welcome Car Park Panto and a performance of Horrible Christmas on December 19.

The Birmingham Stage Company and Horrible Histories are working with the airport so that visitors can enjoy a the show safely.

Neal Foster, from Birmingham Stage Company, said they have been “overwhelmed” by the response of car park shows.

“We were thrilled to be invited to take part in the run of Car Park Party events around the country and were overwhelmed by the response of the audience, who were clearly delighted and relieved to see actors live on stage again,” he said.

“I was totally surprised by just how well Car Park Theatre worked and loved the whole collective experience.

“We can’t wait to be back on stage in cities and towns that will be crying out for a Christmas show to entertain their families.

“As you’d expect from Horrible Histories, it’s not a traditional pantomime, but a journey through the story of Christmas in the company of the season’s most fabulous characters.

“It’s the perfect story for families this winter, as one young boy battles to save Christmas for the world, in this hilarious, joyous and moving celebration.”

Horrible Christmas will narrate the story of how Christmas began, and allow families to feel festive from the safety of their cars.

Tickets for each show cost £47 per car. There will be performances at 2pm and 5pm.

Andrew Morris, retail operations manager at Bristol Airport, said: “We are delighted to be able to host Car Park Panto, in partnership with the Birmingham Stage Company and Horrible Histories.

“We will have two amazing performances of Horrible Christmas at Bristol Airport.

“This year more than ever families need to have the opportunity of enjoying theatre, entertainment and performances in a Covid safe way.

“This innovative approach will ensure that Christmas cheer and fun can be enjoyed by all the family.”

There will be a traffic management team at the event and all vehicles will be park two metres apart to comply with Covid guidelines.

Tickets for the show will be scanned through car windows.

There will also be a range of food and drink on offer during the pantomime and toilet facilities will be provided.

Based on the best-selling books written by Terry Deary and published by Scholastic, The Birmingham Stage Company first launched Horrible Histories live on stage in 2005 with the world premieres of Terrible Tudors & Vile Victorians.

Since then the Birmingham Stage Company has produced eighteen different Horrible shows, performing to over three million people in the UK, including the longest running children’s show in West End history, with its record-breaking series Barmy Britain.

Horrible Histories live on stage has also become a worldwide phenomenon, performing in Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, Qatar and more.
