THE Covid-19 infection rate has fallen in three of Somerset's four districts, according to the latest Government figures.

In the latest seven-day period reported in official figures the rate in Somerset West and Taunton dropped to just 60 per 100,000 of population.

In South Somerset it was down to 92.7 per 100,000; it inched down to 114.2 in Mendip; the only increase was in Sedgemoor, where it went up to 101.5.

There was an increase of 54 new confirmed cases across the county council area in the latest daily figures.

Of those, 11 were in Mendip, which has now seen a total of 904 positive tests since the pandemic started.

Sedgemoor had nine more confirmed cases (overall total 1,536).

There were 18 new cases confirmed in SWT (overall total 1,498).

And there were 16 positive tests in South Somerset (overall total 1,490).
