Puriton Primary School closed as six staff catch Covid-19

Three further members of staff at Puriton Primary School have been contacted by the Track and Trace app and told to self-isolate for a fortnight.

The school has been closed to all students and staff for three days from today (Monday) and will undergo a deep clean.

Two further staff who were tested produced negative results.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Jacqui Keir-Bucknall said: "I have spoken with Publilc Health England and discussed the details of which staff were in school on which days and with which pupils.

"As a result, our Opal Class bubble, children and staff, must isolate for 14 days.

"Parents have been notified in a separate letter.

"Children in Opal Class will now all switch to blended learning at home.

"Sapphire Class have already been advised to isolate, triggered by (a member of staff's) positive result and there are no changes needed to these arrangements.

"(Another member of staff) had no close contact with pupils or staff."

She added: "These are indeed difficult and worrying times and we thank you for helping us to minimise the transmission of the virus by following the government lockdown guidance, staying at home when isolating, wearing face coverings, keeping socially distanced and washing hands regularly and thoroughly.

"Thank you also for the words of encouragement and best wishes for the staff – they really have been appreciated."
