STUDENTS at Haygrove School have donated more than 200 advent calendar to Bridgwater Foodbank so that local families in crisis can have a little piece of Christmas.

Each tutor group was tasked with donating a minimum of five advent calendars and a total of 260 calendars were donated.

Archie Peacock, a Year 7 student whose mum secured 48 calendars from a local Tesco store, said, “It’s good that everyone has made donations so that people in need can have a treat each day leading to Christmas.”

His friend, Ollie Coles added: “I am glad that lots of local people who maybe don’t have much can have a calendar this year.”

The collection was organised by school counsellor and history teacher, Miss Sarah Smith.

“We started doing this last year and it is something that the children can readily get involved with.Their donations will make a difference to some of our most in need local families.”
