The Turnip Prize, based in Wedmore, finalists announced

The popular art award is a spoof of the Turner Prize (an annual prize given to British visual artist) and is based at The New Inn, Wedmore in Somerset.

The competition sees its 'artists' create works involving groan-worthy puns, with the judges giving recognition to entries which have taken as little effort as possible to create.

This year, there were 120 entries in total, but the judges - Trevor Prideaux (organiser) and Fanny Scorcher (2019 winner) – have managed to pick just six finalists.

The finalists are as follows:

• “A Brush with Death” by Robin Deadrest (A robin on its back next to a paint brush)

• “Back to the Fuchsia” by Pete Lamb (A baby doll with its back to a fuchsia plant)

• “Fur Load” by Jolly Roger (A large bundle of fur)

• “Lockdown” by Herewe Goagain (A padlock on top of a pile of feathers)

• “Rock on Tommy” by The Very Reverent Canon Ball (A rock on top of a tomato)

• “Shut the D**k Up” by Doug Tunn (A duck with gaffer tape over its beak)

The presentation for this year’s prize will take place on Tuesday, December 1 at 6pm. It will take place online due to the coronavirus lockdown.
