THERE were eight new cases of coronavirus confirmed across Somerset in the past 24 hours.
The latest figures, released at 3pm today (September 26), revealed that 1,557 people have now had the virus in the county.
There were two new cases in Somerset West & Taunton, two new cases Sedgemoor, another two cases confirmed in South Somerset, and also two additional cases in Mendip.
There were 6,042 new positive test results across the UK - the first time the number of new cases has fallen since last Sunday.
There have been 429,277 total cases across the UK.
The Government also said a further 34 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Saturday. This brings the UK total to 41,971.
Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 57,600 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
