MINEHEAD will miss out on a major darts tournament this year - due to the coronavirus crisis.

Butlin's in the town has hosted the PDC Players Championship finals since 2012, and last year saw Michael van Gerwen secure the title.

But the Professional Darts Corporation has announced the 2020 finals will be staged behind closed doors in November.

Butlin’s is unable to host the event as planned because of current social distancing guidelines.

A rearranged venue for the three-day tournament will be confirmed “in due course”, the governing body said in a statement.

The Players Championship finals is set to feature the top 64 players from the final 2020 Players Championship Order of Merit, who will compete for £500,000 in prize money.
