A MAJOR scheme to resurface a key road in Bridgwater is planned to take place next week.

Somerset County Council will be resurfacing A39 Wembdon Road/North Street as it is showing signs of deterioration with numerous cracks and potholes on the carriageway.

The council say the scheme will be carried out under an evening road closure to minimise disruption and to ensure the safety of the workforce and the travelling public.

The work will begin on Monday, September 21 and will last five evenings, so the road will be closed between 6.30pm and 11.30pm for that working week.

Cllr John Woodman, Somerset County Council’s cabinet member for Highways said: “The upcoming resurfacing of Wembdon Road/North Street is a vitally important scheme.

“We’ve planned for the work to go ahead in the evenings to keep disruption and disturbance to a minimum, and we’ll do everything we can to complete the works as quickly as possible.

"Access to homes and businesses will be maintained – please liaise with on-site staff."
