YOU might think publishing a book would be impossible for someone who cannot write or hold a pen – but that hasn’t stopped Josef Tucker.

And Josef, who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, has put his creative talents to good use - raising money for charity.

The 28-year-old, of Belle Vue Court, North Petherton, uses a computer to speak but enjoys charity work, supporting 10 Radio in Wiveliscombe and School in a Bag in Yeovil.

And now he has written a book called Zebra Paul and Pam Pig go on a car to raise funds for Taunton Foodbank.

On his website Josef wrote: “I have cerebral palsy, which affects all my voluntary limbs. This means I am in a wheelchair, but I use a computer to communicate, using a switch behind my head.

“Think of a good looking Stephen Hawking and there I am!

“My brain is just like yours, I think for myself and order people around.

“I love being involved in interesting and diverse projects. I have a radio show, I have created a CD of music, I do disability awareness presentations and I have even done stand up (or rather, sit down) comedy in front of as many as 800 people, live on stage.”

Josef’s dad, Julian, said he was very proud of his son’s book.

“I am absolutely over the moon,” he said.

“It is such a funny book and the drawings are great.

“Josef has control over most things in his flat and I think him having the chance to live independently inspires him to come up with ideas of things to do and ways to raise money.

“And now I am not so tired from looking after him, I get the chance to help him with his ideas.

“All the ideas come from Josef – and all the words in the book – he is living a life as independently as possible.

“The people around him think ‘if Josef wants to do this then I will help him’. It is possible for someone who is severely disabled to live this sort of life.”

Josef’s friend, Peter Blaker, illustrated the book.

Peter used to help Josef to create music, but this stopped during lockdown, until he mentioned to Josef that he runs a book club.

Josef decided to have a go at writing and Peter suggested illustrating the book “as a laugh”.

But now the book is set to be published and will be available to buy via Josef’s website - joseftucker.me.uk - from this Friday (August 28) for £4.
