THE owners of a Bridgwater hotel and restaurant have welcomed television coverage this week highlighting the plight of those working in hospitality.

Ali Vowles from BBC Points West visited The Old Vicarage Hotel in Bridgwater last week, spending several hour with the team finding out about the protocols in place to ensure everything is spotless and safe for guests.

The Old Vicarage had its industry-standard mark #GoodtoGo on display to reassure customers they are have implemented all the Government guidance on safe reopening and are open for business.

Candida Leaver, the owner of the Old Vicarage, said: “We are so pleased the plight of hotels, not just in the South West are being highlighted by the BBC.

"We have very few bookings in October and November when there would normally be both the Bridgwater Carnival and the Bridgwater Fair.

"We face difficult times ahead and need more help. Possibly extending the 'Eat Out To Help Out' scheme into September and extending the VAT holiday.”

The hotel and restaurant are open but currently with different opening hours.
