THERE is a vast selection of diamond and other jewellery in the Charterhouse auction on Friday, August 7 - including a ring valued at between £15,000 and £20,000.
“Jewellery, and diamonds in particular, are a perennial favourite at auction, whatever the time of year,” said auctioneer Richard Bromell.
“In addition, some buyers are now looking at alternative places to put their money into rather than stocks and shares and many like the appeal of diamond jewellery as an alternative.”
One lot which shines more brightly than the others is the huge diamond solitaire ring.
The diamond measures 1cm in diameter, is the size of the nail on your small finger, is estimated at £15,000-20,000 and comes from the estate of a deceased clergyman.
Elsewhere in the auction, which is just under 900 lots of jewellery, watches, silver, antiques and interiors, there is an Art Deco diamond and ruby bow brooch, from the estate of a titled lady £500-700, a Victorian diamond star brooch £900-1,000, an Edwardian diamond and peridot brooch £700-1,000, a pair of Essex crystal maritime cuff links £500-700 and even a Megalodon shark tooth vinaigrette £150-250.
Viewing for the auction, being held at Charterhouse, The Long Street Salerooms, Sherborne, is on Wednesday and Thursday, August 5 and 6, from 10am to 5pm and you can also see all the lots and download the catalogue from www.charterhouse-auction.com
Charterhouse are now also accepting entries for their auctions including classic and vintage motorcycles on August 27, followed by coins, medals, stamps, clocks and collector’s items on September 3 and 4.
