A NEW butchers will be opening its doors in a popular Burnham-on-Sea farm shop this week.

Whites Farm Shop, which is based on High Street, is opening a new butcher counter in its shop on July 31 and will be selling meat from New Manor Farm.

The shop was named Independent Retailer of the Year at the Somerset Life Food and Drink Awards last year.

Richard Gardiner-White, owner of Whites Farm Shop, said he decided to open the butcher counter after continued requests from residents.

“Our customers since day one have been asking for a butchers in town,” Richard said.

“We had lots of experience working with Matt Vanstone when he worked at Darrells Butchers. He moved to New Manor Farm and they began supplying us there superb meat produce.

“Which has been a big hit with our customers online and a small selection in the shop.

“We began talks with Matt from New Manor Farm and both thought a traditional butchers would work really well on Burnham High Street.

“We have installed two large meat counters and can’t wait to get things underway abs show customers what we have done.

“We have even managed to retain all our fruit and veg by carefully moving things around in the shop.

“We will also be opening a cheese counter offering the same great cheese we always have but now we will have cheese cut to size from The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company and many more fantastic cheeses to try.”

Richard said staff have been working hard to renovate the deli for the last few weeks to get it ready for the launch and he is excited to open the counter to customers.

“We can’t wait to open the shop to customers. We’ve worked really hard to get this butcher counter sorted and were all really excited to show the community what we have been doing,” Richard said.
