A PRIVATE hospital was evacuated this morning (Friday) during a fire.
A total of three fire engines and an aerial platform ladder were sent to the incident at The Cygnet Hospital, Orchard Portman, after the alarm was raised shortly after 10am.
A member of staff there had called 999 to report a fire in an upstairs bedroom at the hospital, which offers specialist inpatient services for older adults with mental health problems.
Crews located the fire in a waste bin in the bedroom.
Staff had tried to tackle the flames with a fire extinguisher, but firefighters fully put out the fire by around 11am.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Luckily there were no injuries and all persons were accounted for, with damage being smoke-related only and confined to the room of origin."
