A TOTAL of four buildings were affected by a fire this afternoon.
The blaze in Bush's Orchard, Ilminster, initially spread to two adjoining houses after breaking out at 4pm.
A fourth house was also involved later on.
At one stage firefighters called to tackle the flames suspended operations due to a gas main being involved.
The fire was finally out by 10pm, by which time all crews had left the scene.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "The fire was deemed to be accidental but unsure of the exact cause.
"A total of four houses were affected by the fire and three garages were completely destroyed."

Crews were sent to the incident in Bush's Orchard, Ilminster, at 4pm today (Saturday) following "multiple" 999 calls.
Fire engines were sent from Chard, Ilminster, Martock, Axminster and Crewkerne.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokemsan said: "Fire crews confirmed that the fire had spread to two adjacent properties and set to work with three hose reel jets, two breathing apparatus, two main jets and two thermal image cameras to tackle the fire.
"The incident is currently ongoing and has been sectorised.
"Further updates to follow as the incident progresses."
