THE manager of Bridgwater's Blake Hall has been going above and beyond to help the people of Bridgwater during the coronavirus crisis.

Dan Smith and his partner Sarah had a number of weddings and various other events at Blake Hall which had to be cancelled following the lockdown.

With the food they had already purchased to cater for these events, Dan and Sarah decided to take it home, cook it all up, and deliver it to people in need.

"So far we have made soups, cottage pies, baked potatoes, and desserts, and must have delivered around 400 of these in total," Mr Smith said.

"There isn't any physical contact, people let us know their situations and we drop the food delivery off at the doorstep, ring the bell and go.

"We have had a great response to what we are doing, as we know there are elderly people out there who are quite isolated - they may not have family able to look out for them."

On top of helping to feed hearty meals to a huge number of people, Dan and Sarah have another major plan to give something back to the NHS staff on the frontline of the COVID-19 crisis.

Dan, who organises the ever-popular tribute festival SomerRock, has also organised SomerFest - a one-day concert which is now due to take place on Saturday, September 12 at Morganians Rugby Club in Bridgwater.

Bridgwater Mercury:

Inspired by the fantastic work our NHS staff are doing, Dan has said that NHS workers will be able to attend the event for free, while proceeds from regular ticket sales will also go toward the Love Musgrove appeal.

"We have already had NHS staff booking tickets which is great, we want to do something to say thank you, and to give them something to look forward to as well," Mr Smith said.

SeeTickets have also agreed to waive booking fees for the concert too.

The concert already has The Wurzels, The Amazing Blues Brothers, Filta, and a Rod Stewart tribute lined up to play.
