THE beginning of a year-long closure of a main road linking Taunton to Bridgwater has been delayed.
Somerset County Council was set to begin a £8million project to upgrade the Creech Castle junction on April 14, but due to the outbreak of Covid-19 and the country's efforts to delay the spread, the project has been postponed.
'Uncertainty' over materials and other concerns caused the council to hit pause on the project.
A spokesperson for SCC said: "The Toneway Creech Castle Junction improvements planned to start on April 14 will not be paused until at least July in light of uncertainty over materials, sub-contractors and key utilities worker."
However, work at the M5 junction 25 improvements will continue. With a reduced workforce on site, the work will continue following government guidance and Public Health England rules for social distancing.
All other planned highway maintenance work, including the Small Improvement Scheme, has been suspended.
The spokesperson added: "This will allow the highways teams to focus resources on safety repairs and emergency works to ensure safe passage for emergency services, key workers and deliveries of supplies."
