ONE of the biggest events in the Taunton calendar has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The free outdoor arts festival Somerfest was due to take place on Saturday, June 13.

But Somerset West and Taunton Council called the event off in line with government advice.

It had been due to feature theatre, music, dance, circus, sports, green crafts, children and family entertainment and Somerset food and drink.

Cllr Marcus Kravis, executive member for economic development, said: “Whilst this is an incredibly popular event in Taunton which brings in a large number of people every year, it would not be prudent to carry on with our plans during this time of great uncertainty.

"Our priority is the health and safety of all those involved.

"After seven years of Somerfest taking place in the heart of Taunton, SWT will look to return Somerfest to the annual event calendar in 2021, bigger and better than ever.”
