Centre Court shopping centre is working alongside Merton based businesses to deliver food parcels to residents in need across the borough.

‘The little community that could’, launched at the beginning of last week and has served more than 160 residents within the scheme.

Teams at centre court have worked alongside, the 'Dons local action group' to create food parcels and deliver them across Merton.

Food packages consist of five everyday items including milk, bread, fresh fruit and fresh vegetables.

As part of the wider effort in Merton, the ‘Dons local action group’ have set up a food donation centre in Wimbledon town centre to provide residents with food.

The Action Group are also offering services such as dog walking and prescription collection to help lift the stress from those in isolation.

Pamper parcels have also been put together, with Centre Court contributing to a collection for the St George’s Hospital by Ricard’s Lodge School.

A spokesperson for Centre Court said: “Wimbledon has always had a strong community spirit but at times like this, it’s stronger than ever.

“As a local shopping centre, we felt that we could use our resources to make an impact in the community and help those in need.

“The amount of support we’ve received from local businesses and the reception from residents has been overwhelming.

“We hope to be able to help as long the situation warrants it.”

Fresh produce products can be delivered between Monday and Friday, and pantry products are available for delivery on Saturday.

Any leftovers from the fresh deliveries are put together as lunchboxes and issued by volunteers to the homeless on Saturday mornings.
