PRIOR to the closure of schools across the UK due to the coronavirus, there was good reason for the staff at Woolavington Village Primary School to be celebrating after winning a prestigious award.
The school was recognised for its work taking on five new apprentices since September last year, winning the ‘New to Apprenticeships’ award at the 2020 Somerset Apprenticeship Awards.
Headteacher Georgina Maclennan said: “We are absolutely thrilled to win this award and there has been a buzz across the school.
“We are new to the Apprenticeship scheme - we want to offer local training and employment while developing core staffing qualities within our dedicated team.”
The school is part of the Clevedon Learning Trust, which is actively looking for governors for Woolavington Village Primary School to help to improve the lives of young people.
They are needed to assist the current staff and governor team in the school’s development.
John Purcell, clerk to CLT governors said: “The most important qualities for being a school governor are enthusiasm, commitment and being able to work well in a team, making joint decisions on strategic policy, school ethos and budgetary control.
“People don’t need teaching experience, but do need an interest in education and the well-being of children.”
