More coronavirus cases have been confirmed in south Cumbria.

Public Health has confirmed that two more people have tested for coronavirus in South Lakeland, as well as another confirmed case in Carlisle, bringing the total number of Cumbrian cases to eight.

Authorities will not specify where in South Lakeland the confirmed cases are, but have confirmed the Carlisle case is a school teacher at Trinity School, in the city centre.

Director of Public Health, Colin Cox, said: “I understand people may be concerned, but it was always likely that the number of cases in the county would increase and I expect this to continue.

"The source of infection in these new cases is known.

"The school concerned is following advice from Public Health England and providing information to parents and pupils, it has not closed.

“People should continue to listen to the advice coming from the NHS and the Chief Medical Officer and ensure they do the simple things like regular hand washing to help prevent the spread of infection.”
