A CHINESE national working in Bristol on the Hinkley C project has tested positive for the Coronavirus, according to reports in China.

EDF contacted Public Health England after a member of the project who works at Bridgewater House in Bristol became unwell when he returned to China from the UK.

There are reports in China that he has tested positive for Coronavirus.

However the man 'would not have posed an infection risk to colleagues or other contacts in the UK', Public Health England has said.

An EDF spokesman said: "Public Health England has advised that, based on this information, this person would not have posed an infection risk to colleagues or other contacts in the United Kingdom."

EDF says it is undertaking a deep clean of all the places where the colleague worked, including the Hinkley C site itself.

An EDF spokesman said: "We will await further advice from Public Health England as it works with Chinese authorities to confirm any diagnosis and understand his movements and contacts.

"This person had not been in China recently. A travel ban remains in place between affected areas and the project.

"As a precaution, areas where this colleague worked are being deep cleaned. This includes the HPC Site, Bridgewater House and HPC buses.

"We have issued advice to staff on the steps we can all take to minimise our individual risks."

In addition four members of the HPC workforce remain in self-isolation - one after returning from Northern Italy and two of his housemates and one employee after returning from Tenerife.
