A CHINEHAM woman has been fined £200 after displaying a racially abusive “sign” and assaulting a pair of police constables.

Louise Hall, of Remembrance Gardens, assaulted two police constables in Basingstoke on January 7.

On the same day she also “displayed some writing sign or other visible representation which was threatening or abusive within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress”.

The court found that this final offence was racially aggravated.

Mrs Hall pleaded guilty to the offences at Basingstoke magistrates court this week.

The 36-year-old was fined £80 for each assault and £40 for the final offence. Magistrates also made her pay two lots of £30 compensation.

 

A 15-YEAR-OLD boy has been sentenced to a detention and training order after intimidating and assaulting a witness.

The teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was alleged to have sent a communication with the intention of intimidating a witness involved in another case, causing the investigation to be “obstructed, perverted or interfered with”.

He also assaulted the same person during an incident at Phoenix Park Terrace, in Basingstoke, on January 25.

The boy had admitted the charges last month and has now been sentenced by magistrates to a six-month detention and training order for the two offences.

His admission also put him in breach of a prior youth rehabilitation order, imposed in August of last year after an incident a month prior in which he robbed a person and caused another grievous bodily harm.

A restraining order has also been put in place preventing him from contacting the person he intimidated and assaulted last month.

 

A MAN who breached a restraining order has been fined by magistrates.

James Barker, of no fixed abode, was found to have contacted a woman when a court order prohibited him from doing so in Basingstoke on February 22.

The 38-year-old admitted the charges at the town’s magistrates court two days later and was fined £120. He was also made to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.

 

A FLEET man has been made to pay more than £300 after harassing a police officer on the basis of his sexual orientation.

Neil Akhtar, of Church Grove, was said to have used threatening, abusive or insulting words that caused a police officer harassment, alarm or distress, during an incident in Basingstoke on June 30, last year.

The court found that the offence was motivated by “hostility towards persons who are of a particular sexual orientation”.

The 34-year-old was fined £160 and made to pay compensation of £75. Magistrates also made him pay a victim surcharge of £32 and £50 in costs, taking his total bill to £317.

 

A 50-YEAR-OLD man found in possession of class A drugs in Basingstoke has been given a community order.

Richard Sambells, of Colden Common, Winchester, was found in possession of a quantity of methadone in Basingstoke on July 22, last year.

The charge was one of two he faced at Basingstoke magistrates court, having allegedly stolen £1,274.90 of cash and electrical and cosmetic items from a Twyford beauty salon in March.

The Winchester man pleaded guilty to both charges, having previously denied the offences.

Magistrates gave him a 12-month community order and placed him under an electronic curfew for eight weeks.

He was also made to pay £200 in compensation.

The methadone was forfeited and destroyed.

 

AN ESSEX man found driving a car near Basingstoke without the correct license or insurance has been hit with a bill of more than £1,000.

Gintaras Pukas, of Winstead Gardens, Dagenham, had been driving a Mercedes on the M3 northbound at Junction 6 when he committed the offence on December 19, last year.

The 29-year-old pleaded guilty to the offences via single justice procedure. He was fined £660 for driving without the current insurance, and £220 for driving without the current license.

Magistrates also gave him six points on his driving licence for the driving without insurance charge.

 

MAGISTRATES have fined a man who drove almost 30mph over the speed limit near Basingstoke and given him four points on his driving licence.

Jitesh Patel, of St Pauls Road, was found driving a Land Rover at 97mph on the M3 northbound at Junction 7, near Dummer, on September 19, last year.

The 37-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence via single justice procedure and was fined £80 by magistrates.

He was also made to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 in costs to go with the four points added to his licence.

 

A HOOK man has been banned from driving for three years after getting behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol.

Nicholas Bushby, of Alton Road, South Warnborough, was driving a Nissan X-Trail in Hook on February 6, when he was found to have 66 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

He was also found the be driving without the correct insurance.

The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to the offences at Basingstoke magistrates court and was disqualified from driving for three years.

He was also fined £260 and made to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.
